Steven L. Hayes, Esq. (Honors J.D., University of San Francisco), is a prominent tax-reform advocate and practicing attorney who has dedicated over 30 years to dismantling the income tax system in favor of a national consumption-based alternative.  He currently serves as Chairman & President of Americans for Fair Taxation (FairTax.org), the country’s largest grassroots organization championing the FairTax—a national retail sales tax designed to eliminate income and payroll taxes while abolishing the IRS. 

Hayes launched his activism in 1990 with Citizens for an Alternative Tax System (CATS) and has been instrumental in founding the Florida FairTax Educational Association.  He is a regularly invited expert on national media, has testified before the House Ways & Means Committee, contributed to former Congressman Jack Kemp’s tax reform panel, and appears nationwide advocating simpler, fairer tax legislation.
